What is JRM Player?
JRM Player is a remote-control app for JRiver Media Center. It lets you browse your media library, control playback, and manage downloads from your iPhone or iPad over your local network.
What do I need to use JRM Player?
- A Mac or Windows PC running JRiver Media Center 32 or later
- The Media Center Web Server (MCWS) enabled in JRiver (Tools → Options → Media Network)
- Your iPhone/iPad and the JRiver PC on the same local network (or a reachable IP/hostname if connecting remotely)
How do I connect the app to my JRiver server?
- Open the Settings tab in JRM Player.
- Enter your server's IP address (or hostname) and the MCWS port (default:
52199). - Enter your JRiver username and password if authentication is enabled.
- Tap Connect. A green indicator confirms a successful connection.
To find your server's IP, open JRiver on the PC and go to Tools → Options → Media Network.
Connection & Playback
The app says "Cannot connect to server." What should I check?
- Make sure JRiver Media Center is running on your PC.
- Confirm MCWS is enabled: Tools → Options → Media Network → Use Media Network to share this library.
- Verify both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Double-check the IP address and port in the app's Settings tab.
- If you have a firewall or antivirus, ensure it allows inbound connections on the MCWS port (default 52199).
Playback stops or skips unexpectedly. How can I fix this?
Interruptions are usually caused by a slow or unstable network connection. Try these steps:
- Move closer to your Wi-Fi router.
- Switch to Settings → Cache Policy → Limited or Unlimited so the app pre-downloads tracks before playing them.
- In JRiver, reduce the streaming bitrate or enable transcoding to a more compatible format.
Audio plays through my phone speaker instead of another output. How do I change this?
JRM Player uses the standard iOS audio session. Use Control Center to route audio to AirPlay speakers, your car via CarPlay, or Bluetooth headphones just as you would with any other audio app.
Downloads & Offline Playback
How do I download music for offline listening?
Navigate to an album or playlist in the Browse tab, then tap the download button in the navigation bar. Downloaded content appears in the Downloads section and is available offline.
How do I free up storage used by the app?
Go to Settings → Cache Policy and choose one of the automatic eviction modes:
- Minimal — removes the previous queue's tracks when a new queue starts.
- Limited — keeps the cache under a size you set, removing least-recently-played tracks first.
You can also delete individual albums from the Downloads list by swiping left on an entry.
Manually downloaded albums are pinned and protected from automatic deletion. Unpin them in the Downloads list before they can be evicted.
Downloaded albums are missing after updating the app. What happened?
Downloads are stored in the app's Documents folder and should survive updates. If content is missing, iOS may have evicted the app's storage due to low device space. Re-downloading from the Browse tab will restore them.
Siri & Shortcuts
How do I play music with Siri?
JRM Player supports Siri via App Intents. You can say things like:
- "Play Abbey Road in JRM Player"
- "Play Kind of Blue by Miles Davis in JRM Player"
The app will search your JRiver library and begin playback. Make sure the app has been opened at least once after installation so Siri can discover its intents.
Diagnostics
How do I share diagnostic logs for a bug report?
- Open the Settings tab and tap Diagnostics.
- Tap Share Log to export the log file.
- Attach it to your support email so we can investigate.
